On this day (April 15) in the year 1452, the great painter Leonardo da Vinci was born. Born in Florence, Italy, Leonardo was also an inventor and engineer. Leonardo's 'Mona Lisa' is a world famous painting.
Leonardo, who developed a new style in painting, painted 'Mona Lisa' in 1504. The woman in the painting is Lisa Gherardini, the wife of Florence's wealthy Francesco del Gioconda. Also known as 'La Gioconda', Mona Lisa looks very attractive with a mysterious smile.
Leonardo began painting the Mona Lisa in 1503. Although he completed the painting in one year, he continued to work on it until 1517. "Mona Lisa" has been kept in the Louvre Museum in Paris, the capital of France since 1797. Most people have visited this museum in the world.
Mona Lisa, the most expensive painting in the world, is estimated to be worth at least 860 million US dollars. Leonardo died on May 2, 1519 in France.
