On this day (April 14) in 1865, US President Abraham Lincoln was shot. Right after the end of the American Civil War, Lincoln was shot while watching a play at Ford's Theater in Washington DC.
Painter John Wicks Beth shot Lincoln. Lincoln died the day after the shooting at the age of 56. Beth, the shooter, was a painter himself. Slavery ended in America in 1863 during the tenure of Lincoln, the 16th president of America. Lincoln ended slavery through the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution.
