Laws from 'fast track' for cooperative problem solving

With the conclusion that it is not possible to solve the problems seen in the cooperative sector with the existing laws and structures, it has been decided to make a law on a 'fast track' to solve the problems of the cooperative victims.

"Since the problems of cooperatives cannot be solved by the current laws alone, it has been decided to bring a law to solve all the problems," Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Padam Giri told Kantipur. According to him, since there is a need for mechanisms to return the money of the savers, to protect the money of the savers, it has been decided to make a legal arrangement for that.

He said that since the session of the Parliament is not going on now, the law can also come through an ordinance. He said that it will take some procedural time to bring the law from the parliament, but the problem of cooperatives has become very serious, so it needs to be solved quickly.

The main opposition Nepali Congress has been demanding a parliamentary inquiry committee to investigate the misappropriation of cooperative savings and fraud. The Parliament itself has been obstructing by taking the stance that the Parliament will not be allowed to function until the inquiry committee is formed. The ruling coalition has been claiming that there is no justification for the investigation committee. The government ended the winter session of the Parliament after the Congress blocked the Parliament demanding the formation of a committee.

Earlier, the then member of the National Planning Commission, Dr. In August 2080, the Cooperative Sector Reform Suggestion Task Force led by Jayakant Raut suggested policy and legal reforms to solve cooperative problems.
