The Central Manandhar Association has organized a one-day conference in Bhaktapur with the aim of protecting the endangered 'Nau' falcon. 6 Baja Khalaks from Bhaktapur and Banepa were present in the conference.
Only nine limited artists mentioned in the Swayambhu Purana are going to play it, and in recent times these instruments are on the verge of extinction. The nine instruments include Neku, Pastah, Pwanga, Dhah, Dabdab, Nagara, Khin, Tah, Muhali.
Gajendra Prasad Manandhar, the coordinator of the Endangered Nine Weapons Conservation Conference, said that the young generation should pay special attention to the preservation of weapons of historical importance. "There is a plan to start the campaign by training the new generation to protect the falcons," he said.
It is customary to play this instrument especially during the Gulla Festival, which is celebrated for a month from the month of July. It is believed that the nine instruments protected by the Buddhist sages were recognized as official instruments in Kapilvastu at the time of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha.
