Sunil Poudel, the then managing director of Nepal Telecom, who was prosecuted by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority on the charge of illegal wealth acquisition, has been sent to prison for the interim. In the case against Paudeli, the special court on Wednesday ordered him to be sent to jail for preliminary investigation.
The Authority filed a corruption case against Paudel on May 9, with a fine of Rs. Yagyaraj Regmi, the information officer of the authority, informed that after the detention debate on the case on Wednesday, the special court ordered Poudel to be kept in jail until the case is settled.
After the order of the court, Paudel has been sent to the Dillibazar jail on Wednesday. He has already been found guilty by the special court in the case of purchase of payment gateway equipment and consulting services last Friday. It was revealed by the authority's investigation that he had opened a dollar account in Singapore without the permission of the government and managed the property acquired through bribery there.
The information officer of the authority, Regmi, said that based on the facts and evidence available in the case of the defendant, the court has ordered to run the prison until the case is settled. The court sent him to prison on the basis that he could further misuse the money in foreign banks after he was released from custody.
