Chairman of Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee and leader of Nepali Congress Arju Rana has alleged that the commission of inquiry formed by the government to monitor cooperatives is not reliable.
Speaking at a discussion program on 'cooperative problems and future strategy' held in Kathmandu on Saturday, she claimed that the government investigation committee formed to bring justice to the victims of cooperatives is not reliable.
MP Rana said that even the cooperative organizations themselves do not have the manpower to recover the amount of the fraud and the Nepal Police is not even interested in hearing the complaint. She also said that the committee has also received complaints about the cases of the cooperatives making people homeless and they have instructed the concerned cooperatives not to allow such activities.
Chairperson Rana said that after the law to open cooperatives was passed in the year 2074, there was no option to solve the problems in the cooperative sector. 'The cooperative itself does not have the manpower to collect the debt. There is a state of non-cooperation by the police,' she said. But unfortunately the government is not serious about this matter.'
She alleged that the government could not take any concrete action to solve the problem even though more than 20 cooperatives were having problems.
