No party interference in universities: Education Minister

Education, Science and Technology Minister Sumana Shrestha has said that there will be no interference in the universities on behalf of her and her party.
Accepting the suggestions of experts including educationist Kedar Bhakta Mathema to continue appointments in universities according to academics and merit, Minister Shrestha said that even though she is the ex-officio vice-chancellor of the universities, she will not tell any vice-chancellor or official to appoint her or someone from her party or to do such work.
'There is no pressure or interference from my party in the university. Please ask the top leaders of various parties here not to interfere,' she said.
Educationists thanked Minister Shrestha for appointing the Chancellor and Registrar of Tribhuvan University on the basis of open competition and not on the basis of party divisions.
Minister Shrestha has made it clear that the appointment of Tribhuvan University service commission members will be done on the basis of competition and that she will not be involved in the selection process. She informed that since the existing law does not allow employees and teachers to be members of political parties, she is determined to take action if they are found to be members, and informed that a working group has been formed to give suggestions on the criteria for filling teacher posts, including the removal of the requirement that teachers must have studied 'B.E.D.'
