Bal Kumari's Khat Jatra has started in Sunakothi. Jatra is celebrated from Chait Shukla Trayodashi i.e. from Sunday to Tuesday (full moon). On the first day of the Jatra, a 64 hand tall Yosi (Lingo) has been placed as a symbol of Nagaraja on the 'Yosi Galle' on the west side of the Bhrigareshwar Mahadev Temple located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-27.

Balkumari Jatra begins in Sunakothi

In the Nepali language, Yosi Gale means the traditional lingo burial place. The first day is celebrated by the locals as 'Chyola Boo'. Before raising Yosi, the Guthiyar of Balkumari Guthi duly performed pooja at 'Yosi Galle'.

Krishnahari Maharjan, the ward president of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality-27, said that during the raising and lowering of the lango, there is no human loss.

Guthiyars welcomed Yosi by playing Indra baja while sitting in the courtyard of Balkumari temple. On the top of the yosi are placed pancharatna cloth, national flag, kusi swan (a type of flower) and lemon. On the occasion of the Jatra, the 12-feet tall Trishul made from a single stone in the Bhrigareshwar temple complex is decorated with precious diamonds and gold plates. According to local Indra Baja Khalak Kashilal Maharjan, on the second day of the Jatra, the idols of Ganesha, Balkumari, Kumar and Mahadev are brought outside the temple and decorated with ornaments. In the evening, Jatras are held in separate Shikhar-style processions. And in the evening they carry the child's bed on their backs.

On the last day in Chhyas tol, the khat of Bal Kumari is circled by the khat of Ganesha, Kumar and Mahadev. Which is considered as the main attraction of Jatra. At the end, the Dhow Baji Khel Tol is performed by mixing all the four khats together. And on the day of the full moon, Yosi is thrown. It is believed that those who receive a lemon placed on the top of a yosi on the last day will be blessed with children. Locals fight to get lemons.
