Landslides, floods kill eleven more
KATHMANDU, OCT 07 - At least 11 people were killed and six others went missing in several parts of the country due to landslides and floods on Wednesday.
Four people died when a landslide buried a house at Thapathana VDC-9 in Parbat district and three in Marku VDC of Achham taking the Far-western district’s death toll to 21. Eighteen people were killed on Tuesday.
Flooding in Kailali killed two persons at Tikapur-2 and Bhajani VDC. A man, who was swept away by flood waters, went missing at Chuha VDC, police said.
In Syangja, floods swept away a 13-year-old girl in Bicharichautara-7 of the district. Continuous rainfall deluged nieghbouring Baglung and Myagdi districts. Another person went missing at a local stream in Lamjung.
In Banke, a man died and a child went missing due to the flood. Likewise, two people went missing when a flooded Tila River swept them away at Depalgaun in Jumla.
Meanwhile, 22 Nepal Army soldiers posted at Gaindamachan Post inside Bardiya National Park have gone out of contact after flood waters deluged the post.
Bus-fall kills six, 46 hurt
PALPA: Six people died and 46 were injured when a bus skidded off the road at Chidipani VDC of the district and fell about 100 metres on Wednesday.
The vehicle was heading to Rampur from Palpa district headquarters Tansen. Four people died on the spot, while two died in course of treatment, police said. Those killed were identified as Dev Bahadur BK of Phoksingkot, Tribhuwan Thapa of Baughapokharathok and Narayan Ghartimagar of Siddharthanagar.
The identities of three others are yet to be ascertained. Of the injured, 14 are in critical condition, a source at Palpa Mission Hospital said.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus veered off the road when the driver tried to avoid landslide debris. (PR)
