CIAA nabs ex-minister Rabindra Nath Sharma

KATHMANDU, OCT 22 - The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today arrested Rabindra Nath Sharma, former minister and senior leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport on the charge of amassing property in illegal manner. According to the police at the airport, the CIAA took Sharma under its control at 12:00 PM and he was taken to the CIAA office in Singh Durbar. However, Sharma did not give his statement today. Few days back the Commission had arrested former minister Govinda Raj Joshi and two former secretaries Padam Prasad Pokharel and Chakra Bandhu Aryal. The CIAA could not arrest Sharma as he was in the United States then. The Commission, today, has initiated evaluating Sharma’s property. Expressing displeasure over the CIAA’s action, Sharma said, " The Supreme Court is yet to pronounce its verdict on my petition against the CIAA. The Commission arrested me at such confusion." Sharma has earlier challenged the CIAA’s summon at the apex court. The Commission will present Sharma at the Special Court seeking 30 days of judicial remand tomorrow.Posted on: 2003-10-21 11:14
