PM visits Mustang
MYAGDI, OCT 17 - Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal visited Upper Mustang of Mustang district on Saturday and inquired about development activities there.
He also met the former king of Mustang, Jigme Parbal Bista and discussed local issues. During his Mustang visit, Nepal inspected the office of Annapurna Conservation Area Project, Lomangthan Palace and Chhorten Monastery.
The prime minister, who flew to Upper Mustang in a Nepal Army helicopter, also talked to locals. The denizens of Mustang informed him that they had been greatly affected by climate change. They said water sources had dried up and grazing fields were diminishing. They further complained that Nepal government was indifferent to the need to conserve historic monasteries and alleviate their problems.
Prime Minister Nepal assured them the government would help in conserving historic monuments and carry out development activities in the area.
“During his visit to the former king of Mustang and locals, the prime minister assured that the government would provide necessary help in conserving mo-numents and the environment,” said CPN-UML politburo member Shrimaya Thakali who accompanied Nepal.
Prime Minister Nepal paid homage at Muktinath Temple while returning from Upper Mustang for district headquarters Jomsom. Nepal was accompanied by Forest and Soil Conservation Minister Deepak Bohara, member of National Nature Conservation Fund Juddha Gurung, the prime minister's political advisor Raghuji Panta, and UML leaders Pradeep Nepal and Amrit Kumar Bohora.
