People at Kimathangka in the district have been deprived of medical services as the local health post has remained closed after the only Assistant Health Worker, Ganesh Singh, went to district headquarters Khandbari to attend a seminar a month ago but has not returned yet. The health facility has no other health worker though it has nine posts for various staffers.
As a result, local residents in the remote village are left with no option other than chartering a helicopter to take patients suffering from even minor diseases to elsewhere for treatment as people in the VDC have to walk for seven days to reach Khandabari, where comparatively well-equipped hospital is located. Local people said health workers are not available even at health facilities in nearby villages. Pemba Nawa, a local, said they recently took three patients to Khandabari for treatment via chartered helicopters due to a lack of treatment in the village.
Madan Kumar Upadhyay, chief of the District Public Health Office, said he would send Singh back to duty immediately.
