UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal left for a week-long visit to China on Sunday. This is his third visit to the country since the Maoist party joined mainstream politics in 2006.
Dahal is accompanied by his spouse, personal aides and security personnel. However, there are no Maoist leaders from the party’s internal bureau in Dahal’s team.
During his stay in China, Chairman Dahal is scheduled to meet the new Chinese leadership-President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang-and other high-level officials. Speaking to reporters at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Dahal said that his visit would focus on economic development and stability.
“We should take initiatives to benefit from the achievements made by our two neighbours. My visit to China and India will focus on this purpose,” said Dahal, who will be visiting India immediately after returning from China.
Concerning the political agenda, Dahal said that he will ask the Chinese leadership to provide support for fresh Constituent Assembly (CA) polls and the constitution-drafting process.
