Trendsetters: take two

KATHMANDU, MAR 23 - Imagine an evening that is all about fashion, glitz and glamour. Imagine an evening that is all about the latest designs, being flaunted by beautiful models and celebrities, to a fashion savvy audience. It was precisely such an ambience that characterised the second edition of Vootoo Entertainment’s Trendsetters fashion gala held at the Hotel de l’Annapurna poolside on March 22.

The event showcased the spring and summer 2013 collections of 12 prominent fashion designers and designer-labels from Nepal.

First to show off their latest creations was the boutique Odhani, which included a precious collection of bridal wear—comprised of elegant lehengas in vibrant shades—that was a combination of the wedding staple, and more. Many of the dresses gave a new, and admirable, twist to traditional wear, certainly making it suitable for the modern bride who wants to make a style statement on her d-day. Similarly, Aira, Astik Designs, Bishow Gautam, Crossroads Apparel, Gabi, House of Fasion, Now, Suruchira and Tenzin Tseten Bhutia Creations also unveiled their newest collections. Much to the audience’s delight, this year’s collection included fab, and most definitely wearable, designs that brought together the chic, the casual, the formal, as well as the shocking all on a single platform. Needless to say, there was enough versatility being showcased on the ramp to make a mark on anyone’s taste in fashion.

Aside from the designs themselves, the event also brought together some of the most celebrated faces in the Nepali fashion and entertainment industries. Those strutting the ramp included actors Jharana Bajracharya, Priyanka Karki, Namrata Shrestha, Reema Biswokarma, Raymon Das Shrestha, former beauty queens Shristi Shrestha, Malina Joshi and Sahana Bajracharya, and choreographer Rachana Gurung, among others, who made spectacular entries as showstoppers.

The event concluded with the launch of Nepal’s first men’s magazine TNM (The Nepali Man). Rajesh Hamal, unanimously claimed as the country’s superstar, has been featured on the cover of the first issue of the magazine.

This year’s Trendsetters was hosted by former Miss Nepal Malvika Subba along with Sanjay Gupta and saw performances by Priyanka Karki, who performed an aerial number, and model Anupama Aura Gurung.

The first edition of Trendsetters took place in September last year
