DHANGADHI, FEB 10 - A woman killed her two daughters before she committed suicide at Joshipur VDC in Kailali district on Saturday evening.
Laxmi Chaudhary, in her mid-thirties and a resident of Janakinagar VDC-5, fed her daughters Bishnu (11) and Bindu (5) poison before hanging herself from a tree in a nearby forest, police said. The daughters were also found lying dead near the tree.
It is learnt that Laxmi was in deep mental stress for the past one month over the treatment of her mentally ill husband.
She was forced to bring her husband home from a hospital in Lucknow, India, a few days ago as she did not have more money for his treatment there.
The man is now undergoing ‘treatment’ at the hands of a local shaman.
Police Inspector at the District Police Office Sudam Rawal said Laxmi might have murdered her daughters as she thought that her committing suicide would leave the children helpless.
Adding to Laxmi’s woes was the fact that one of her daughters, Bishnu, was physically challenged and that she was not able to arrange money for her treatment, according to the police.
