Nepali players shine in Junior Int’l Tennis

KATHMANDU, DEC 26 - Nepali badminton player Sikchya Shrestha has succeeded in reaching the U-17 girls’ final in the Chelsea Junior International Badminton Championship after defeating Somya Das of Jharkhand Badminton Academy in straight sets on Wednesday. She will take on Manisha Rani Tirka, also of Jharkhand Badminton Academy, in the summit clash.

Meanwhile, Manisha and Somya will vie for the U-15 title. Manisha defeated Jessica Gurung of Nepal, 21-8 and 21-7 while Somya had to dig deep to defeat Megha Chand in a three set thriller. Somya prevailed 21-19, 14-21 and 21-18.

Riyaz Ansarii and Nir Bikram Devkota will fight for U-15 boys’ title, while the U-17 boys’ final will see Nepali pair Suman Limbu and Bijit Thapa go head to head against each other for the title.

Suman and his partner Santosh Khadka have also reached the finals of the U-17 boys’ doubles, where they will play Tirtha Malla and Bijit Thapa.

The finals are all scheduled to be held on Thursday.
