Local pros Mani, Suman on top

DHARAN, DEC 26 - Local pros Mani Rai and Suman Rai shared the lead after the second round of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open at the par-70 Nirvana Country Club Golf and Health Resort in Dharan on Wednesday.

Mani played one-under 69, while Suman carded three-under 67 for the two-day total of one-under 139 in the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2012/13.

They are one-stroke ahead of Rabi Khadka. Rabi played a round of two-under 68 for a total of even-par 140.

Mani played even-par 35 on the front nine that included a birdie on the third hole and a bogey on the fourth hole. Mani started the back nine with a bogey but carded birdies on the 11th and 13th holes to finish the last nine holes at one-under 34. Likewise, Suman carded five birdies on his way to three-under 67. He took the turn at one-under 34 and added two-under 33 o the back nine. He shot birdies on the fifth, eighth, 12th, 13thand 16th holes against bogeys on the first and 17th holes.

Dhana Thapa is fourth at four-over 144 after the second round score of one-over 71, while Ram Thapa, Sanjay Lama and Surya Prasad Sharma shared the fifth position at five-over 145.

The cut was applied at 15-over 155 with 29 players—21 pros and eight amateurs—surviving for the final two rounds.

In Amateur section, Nepal No 1 Bikash Bogati extended his lead with the total score of two-over 142. Bikash carded even-par 70 in the second round.

He is overall fourth in the leaderboard. Dinesh Prajapati is second at 147, while Bishnu Sharma is third at 150.

Dinesh played four-over 74, while Bishnu shot 76. Other amateur players who made the cut included Tirtha Poudel, Arjun Sunuwar, Sukra Rai, Kaji Rai and Tanka Bahadur Karki.
