Secy tells CDOs not to drag feet on corruption

POKHARA, DEC 26 -

Home Secretary Navin Kumar Ghimire has said Chief District Officers (CDOs) are mere spectators to rampant corruption in the country despite having the upper hand in districts. He said zero tolerance towards corruption has been merely a lip service.

“I have been saying it time and again that the CDOs are silent on corruption in the local level. I feel guilty about the matter,” said Ghimire while speaking at a regional security meeting in Pokhara on Wednesday. Ghimire said CDOs, who are responsible for dealing with the corruption cases in the local level, have remained inactive and ineffective over the embezzlement of allowances being provided to elderly people by VDC secretaries. He said that his head thumps to find ministers and secretaries committing corruption during their field visits.

Issuing a solemn plea to CDOs, Ghimire called on them to give up their responsibilities if they just remain silent over corruption.

Nepal Police IGP Kuber Singh Rana, Armed Police Force IGP Kosh Raj Onta, chief of National Investigation Department Moti Gurung, CDOs and security heads of all 16 districts in the Western Region are taking part in the two-day meeting.
