KATHMANDU, DEC 18 -
Diplomat, writer and thinker Gopalkrishna Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, said there is a dearth of leadership in South Asia, which used to have leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar that the world takes with high respect. Speaking at a public lecture on ‘Leadership in South Asia’ as part of the Alliance for Social Dialogue-Himal Southasian lecture series on Tuesday, he said the political leadership is not sufficient to change the society but a good leadership is vital in non-political sectors. He expressed concern over increasing violence in politics in the region. "Politics in South Asia is in difficulty because of eroding credibility." He argued that the family allegiance to a political party should not be a passport to power. (PR)
