KATHMANDU, DEC 18 -
It has come to light that Prem Sagar Paudel, who was arrested on the charge of cheating Rs 1.5 million off a Kalimati-based vegetable trader on December 9, was behind a number of other fraud cases as well.
The Metropolitan Police Crime Investigation Division (MPCID) said Paudel has been on the loose for a long time being associated with an NGO entitled Nepal-China Mutual Help Society, which is registered in his name.
Apart from vegetable trader Girijapati Gupta, Paudel is also found to have cheated Indra Bahadur Rajbanshi of Bardiya. While Gupta had been assured of a connection with a Chinese agency supplying agricultural goods, Rajbanshi was told that Paudel would send his son to China for MBBS studies.
According to police, Rajbanshi has already handed over Rs 17,00,000 to Paudel. “Although Rajbanshi deposited money in the bank account of the NGO that Paudel was running, his son was never sent to China for studies,” police said.
During interrogation Paudel admitted to have cheated a number of other people too by pledging them that he would help them get brick kiln licenses. According to police, Paudel has already taken Rs 1,000,000 from others with similar assurances.
