Minister takes stock of road expansion

KATHMANDU, DEC 11 - A team from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Works (MoPPW), led by Minister Hridayesh Tripathi inspected expansion works of various roads in the Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday.
Tripathi, accompanied by MoPPW Secretary Tulasi Sitaula and heads of the Divisions of Roads at Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, visited different locations in the Valley and evaluated the progress of the reconstruction works.
According to Sitaula, the minister directed contractors to complete the expansion and reconstruction works soon. “There has been progress as expected in inner roads,” said Sitaula. He said the minister asked the contractors and concerned bodies to expedite the works, mainly along the Tinkune-Maitighar section. The inspection team travelled for more than three hours from six in the morning.
Sitaula, however, informed that delay in part of the Nepal Electricity Authority and Nepal Telecom in relocating their utility poles has caused some problems in paving some sections of the roads.
Around 100km of roads within the Valley have been expanded since the drive first started in November last year. However, only six km of the expanded roads have been blacktopped so far.
The government plans to expand another 300km of smaller roads inside the Valley within the current fiscal year.
