TANAHUN, NOV 29 -
Nepali Congress (NC) Vice-president Ramchandra Poudel has said that only a government led by his party can hold Constituent Assembly elections.
Inaugurating a district convention of Nepal Dalit Association in Tanahun on Thursday, he said that the NC should lead an election government for free and fair polls.
“The Nepali Congress only has the experience of holding free and fair elections in the country. History is the witness that Congress held the elections fairly though
it was defeated badly,” he said. All the parties should help form an NC-led government to hold elections and draft a new constitution, he said.
In another context, Poudel said UCPN (Maoist) was to blame mainly for the protracted political deadlock. “The Maoist snub to a Congress-led government means they don’t want to institutionalise the democratic system in the country,” he said.
Saying that the NC is against untouchability and caste discrimination, Poudel claimed that the ‘grand old party’ has started a movement against this social evil since the 1951 revolution.
