KATHMANDU, NOV 25 -
In four raids carried out simultaneously at casinos in Kathmandu Valley on Saturday night, police arrested five Nepalis and confiscated Rs 47,500 in cash and casino coins of various denominations.
The raids, coordinated by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, Hanumandhoka, took place between 9:15pm and 10:30pm at Casino Shangri-la and Casino Anna on Durbarmarg, Casino Everest in Baneshwor and Casino Venus in Lazimpat. Plainclothesmen were involved in the action.
“We followed on a tip-off that some Nepali nationals visit these casinos on a regular basis,” said DSP Dhiraj Pratap Singh, MPR spokesperson.
Among the arrestees are Surendra Rana Magar, 23, of Naikap; AK Khadka, 48, of Biratnagar; Binod Pratap Shrestha, 40, of Chhetrapati; Shankar Chaulagain, 25, of Nuwakot and Jay Lal Sunar, 64, of Bouddha. Along with the cash, police seized two casino coins worth Rs 10,000 each, five worth Rs 1,000 each, 20 worth Rs 100 each and 14 others of unidentified denominations. Posted on: 2012-11-26 08:50
