KATHMANDU, FEB 08 -
Seven Nepali Congress (NC) lawmakers representing the Far Western region have demanded an ‘Akhanda’ (single) Far Western state.
The lawmakers on Wednesday expressed concerns over the report presented by the majority bloc in the State Restructuring Commission (SRC) that recommends incorporating Kailali and Kanchanpur into other states.
Lawmakers Ramesh Lekhak, Dev Raj Joshi, Chandri Ram Tamata, Kalpana Sov, Ishwari Neupane, Arju Deuba Rana, and Maha Nepali issued a press statement and demanded the separate ‘Akhanda’ Far-Western state.
They said the nine districts of the region must not be divided as they are similar and interrelated in terms of economic, social and cultural aspects.
“The Far Western region should remain a single province while federating the country,” the statement said. The lawmakers claimed that the division of the region would hinder its development.
