KATHMANDU, FEB 08 -
With the end of winter approaching, branded apparel stores in the Kathmandu valley have launched sales schemes to clear their stocks for the next season. Major stores located in places like Durbar Marg, New Road and various shopping malls are offering discounts ranging from 10 to 70 percent. According to traders, the offer has been introduced with the aim of clearing winter stocks besides providing value added service to their loyal customers.
Sports Plaza, one of the noted names in the domestic branded wear market and the authorised importer of global brands like Reebok, Lee and Rockport, is offering discounts from 20 to 50 percent. According to Dilip KC, manager at Sports Plaza, prices have been reduced 20 to 50 percent on Reebok apparels, shoes and accessories. Similarly, discounts from 20 to 30 percent are being offered on Lee apparels and up to 50 percent on shoes from Rockport.
“This scheme has been running for the past two weeks, and the response has been very good,” said KC. “Our stores are witnessing an increment in new customers by 10 to 15 percent.” He added that the scheme had helped them to revitalize the market which has been in a downward spiral due to the slowdown in the country’s economy.
Another popular store, Nike on Durbar Marg, has also started its winter sale offer. Avenue Marketing, the authorised importer of Nike in Nepal, is giving a flat discount of 25 percent on apparels, 15 percent on bags, accessories and equipments and 10 percent on recently introduced shoes. According to Jagdish Parajuli, floor in-charge of the Nike store, they expect the winter offer to increase sales by at least 10 to 15 percent.
Another casual store situated on Durbar Marg, Bolino, is offering a flat discount of 25 percent on its entire product range. Similarly, Puma stores on Durbar Marg and at City Centre, Kamal Pokhari has come up with a winter sale scheme. The stores are offering discounts of 40 to 60 percent on shoes, 30 to 40 percent on apparels and 20 percent on accessories. “The scheme will last for another month, and we are very enthusiastic about sales,” said Praveen Gurung of Puma Store.
The country’s biggest retail chain, UFO, too has launched a clearance sale. “Unlike other stores which are offering a winter sale offer, we are offering a clearance sale.
There are separate corners in our stores where products of last winter are offered at discounted prices,” said Sachin Shrestha, brand manager of UFO. The chain maintains 14 outlets across the country.
