POKHARA, FEB 04 - Pune FC, a club playing in top flight in Indian League stunned Sahara Club 1-0 to enter semi-finals in the 10th Aaha Gold Cup Football Tournament played at the Pokhara Stadium on Saturday.
In the arousing contest, Abunga Mitei scored the only goal in the 77th minute that secured his team’s progressing in the competition and ousted the home team amid the raging support of spectators.
Man of the match Mitei skillfully escaped from the clutch of the defenders and scored a spectacular goal from the inviting assist from his team-mate Nikhil Kadham in the danger region of Sahara.
Earlier, Sahara’s goalie Raju Yogi denied his opponent’s threat to take a driving seat at three different occasions.
Sahara, who operates their own football academy in Pokhara, has also produced many national layers. Sahara’s dedication for the betterment of the game is note-worthy. Also, they have attained a different height of popularity by hosting Aaha Gold Cup, which is one of the most popular and grand competition. Nevertheless, they have failed to prosper in the competition which they have been organising for a decade now.
The first timer Pune Football Club, which was established three years back and is being operated by different business firms made their way to the top flight in no time. They achieved fourth position in the last edition of Indian Football League. However, Pune Coach, Ranjan Choudhary wasn’t happy despite sneaking a win to progress further in the competition.
“We won the match but I am not happy with the performance of the boys. We could have played far better game. We have now acquainted with the ground condition. I pro-mise we will show different game in the semifinal match”.
“I will adopt different strategy against our opponent in semfinal match”, coach Choudhary said.
Meanwhile, Sahara coach Kiran Shrestha congratulated Pune FC for winning the match and tagged them the “professional” side. “They look very professional”, Coach Shrestha said, “I think they are the best team so far in the tournament. I am sorry to all Pokhareli fans on behalf of my team”, coach Shrestha said, “We couldn’t win the match. We will do our best in next edition”.
Sahara are yet to progress further from the semi-final stage of the competition as they have stumbled to advance to the final on six different occasions.
