KATHMANDU, FEB 04 -
On song Nepal made it two in a row with their 97 runs triumph against Malaysia in the ACC U-19 Women’s Championship at Unity Cricket Ground, in Kuwait, on Saturday.
Having defeated China by seven wickets in the inaugural match Nepal made light work of Malaysian batting.
Defending a target of 137 runs the defending champions bowled Malaysia out for 39 runs in 12.2 overs. Two time champions Nepal, who are yet to lose a match in this championship since its inception back in 2008, registered their 15th consecutive victory on Saturday.
Nepal’s coach Nabin Singh hailed the performance of player of the match Santoshi Chaudhary. “Santoshi bowled brilliantly for us,” Singh said, “We are taking every match like a final and I am happy that the players are doing well in both the bowling as well as the batting.”
Malaysia are yet to get off the mark in the tournament as they had lost the match against Thailand by 34 runs at the Hubara Ground on Friday. Led by Santoshi who ended with figures of four wickets and 13 runs and skipper Rubina Chhetry who claimed three wickets giving away just nine runs, Nepal put Malaysia on the back foot from the beginning.
Chhetry got rid of right handed opener Yusrina to reduce Malaysia for 2/1 in the third ball of the innings. Chhetry claimed her second wicket when her fast ball zipped after kissing Mariana Lakie’s bat and Malaysia were 13/2 in five overs. Santoshi then took bowling and Malaysia simply went down hill from there on. Earlier, 45 runs second wicket partnership between Indu Varma and Shilu Rijal set the platform for a total of 136 runs which Nepal achieved in 25 overs with the loss of five wickets.
The two knocked the ball around brilliantly to take the total to 76. Just after Varma had hit a boundary through the mid-wicket she was bowled by Nursyaz to reduce Nepal to 76/2 in the 16th over.
Nursyaz provided Malaysia, who were struggling with the ball, a huge breakthrough when she got the prize wicket of Rijal 35 runs in the same over to shrink the opponent to 76/3.
Nur Nadhirah took two wickets in consecutive overs which put the brakes on Nepal’s batting as they managed only 136 runs. She first sent captain Chhetry (3) runs back to the seats in the 19th over. Mamata Chaudhary who stroked 23 runs got the runs ticking for Nepal after Kavita Gautam was bowled by the off breaker Nadhirah 116/5 in the 22nd over.
Nepal take on UAE at the same venue on Sunday.
