KATHMANDU, FEB 04 -
The UCPN (Maoist) has said the report of the State Restructuring Commission has many contradictory provisions.
A meeting of Maoist leaders on Saturday concluded the party, in principle, welcomes the ethnic-based federalism as recommended by a majority of SRC members but it has strong reservations on some issues. The party said the recommendation of a non-territorial Dalit state is unfeasible and it contradicts with the political priority rights.
"We have concluded that modifications need to be made for the report to be practical and scientific," said Maoist chief whip Dev Gurung. The party also objected to the SRC decision to remove Sherpa and Jadan provinces from the federal map. The party said it is against federation on the basis of identity, flouting the principle set by a CA committee.
The meeting decided that the report must be referred to the CA Committee on Restructuring of the State and Devolution of State Powers.
