BUTWAL, JAN 30 -
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Monday that his party was open to forming a national consensus government led by a non-Maoist party if no agreement is forged to turn the current coalition into a national consensus one.
Talking to reporters after participating in cadres’ orientation program in Butwal, Dahal said efforts will be made to turn the Baburam Bhattarai-led government into a national consensus one. “But, if that is not possible, we will not create obstruction to form national consensus government under the leadership of any non-Maoist leader,” he said.
At a time when opposition parties—Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML—are demanding to scrap the government’s decision to legalise the war-era land and property transactions, Dahal asked the oppositions to come up with an alternative solution to the issue. “We are ready to withdraw the decision if the NC and the UML provide an alternative solution to the problem,” he said.
At the same programme, PM Bhattarai said that incumbent government would complete the tasks of peace and constitution drafting. Vice Chairman Mohan Baidya said there has not been any intra-party discussion regarding the formation of a national consensus government.
The Baidya faction is demanding resignation of PM Bhattarai to pave the way for the formation of a national consensus government. The top leaders had participated in the orientation program to give a message the party is united.
