Armed Tarai group ready for dialogue

J PANDEY
NEPALGUNJ, JAN 28 -
Commander of the Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Party Bhagat Singh has said his party is ready to sit for talks with the government.

The statement follows the government’s talks invite and a clamp down on the outfit by state forces. “We’re preparing to declare a ceasefire and sit at the negotiating table,” Singh said over telephone.

The Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction had urged the outfit to come for a talk. “We have got the letter sent by the ministry. We will form a talks team within a week for the purpose,” he said.

Singh clarified he was compelled to raise arms but is in favour of peace talks. “We have realised that problems are not solved through a war,” he said. The government has also initiated preparations for a talk with the outfit. Peace Minister Satya Pahari on Saturday visited Banke district and held consultations with security forces to bring the outfit to the negotiating table.

The outfit is demanding the release of its cadres arrested by the state. Other demands include compensation to the families of cadres killed.
