BAGLUNG, JAN 11 -
Local people have complained that they have not been able to use or sell plots of land occupied by Nepal Army in Baglung Municipality-11.
Of the around 5.1 hectares of land occupied by the 23 No company and the Suryadal battalion of the Army, around 2.8 hactres belong to 46 households. The land was occupied in 1997.
The locals said they urged the authorities concerned time and again to either buy the plots or vacate them, but in vain.
“Our request to give us money for the land or vacate it has not been heard,” said Lal Chandra Rajbhandari, who owns five ropanis of land occupied by the Army. He said he received Rs 100,000 as compensation from the Army last year.
The Army has distributed Rs 2.4 million among the landowners as compensation so far. Krishna Shankar Shrestha said they were not able to use the land around the barracks due to the barbed wire fencing. “Preparations to relocate the battalion are underway. The land will be vacated once the battalion moves out,” said Chief of the company Tajman Singh Basnet. He added that the battalion will take another two to three months to shift.
