‘No statute with UML, NC in oppn’

PRAKASH BARAL
BAGLUNG, JAN 03 -
CPN-UML leader KP Oli has said promulgating a new constitution is impossible with his party and the Nepali Congress (NC) remaining in opposition. Oli said here on Tuesday that the UCPN (Maoist) could not be trusted as long as its army existed. He claimed that peace and constitution can be achieved only if all the agreements made so far are implemented by a yet-to-be-formed national consensus government.

“We should foil the Maoist strategy of capturing the state as they are hell bent on going for an election with their arms and combatants in tact,” the UML leader told media persons in Baglung on Tuesday. He had reached the district to participate in a zonal level training of UML activists.

“The new constitution is not possible by sidelining UML and NC that are prominent players in Nepali politics. Our party will not accept an incapacitated constitution that does not address major issues like state restructuring and form of governance,” said Oli, opining that Nepal should not adopt federalism along ethnic lines.
