BIRATNAGAR, DEC 31 -
Police arrested seven people including spokesperson of Khumbuwan Mukti Morcha Samyukta, an ethnic outfit, with weapons and some documents from different places in Sunsari and Morang districts on Saturday.
A team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhim Dahal arrested Hiralal Sunuwar, spokesperson of the outfit and cadres Nabin Kiran Dhami, Hari Acharya and Kedar Dahal of Morang and Min Kumar Rai of Bhojpur, Puran Chaudhary of Itahari, Bijaya Kumar Rai of Khotang.
Police also confiscated a huge amount of materials used to make improvised explosive devices, two bombs, two Italian pistols, an American magazine, two wrist watches, a mobile set, sim cards, ATM cards and Rs 142,000 cash from the arrestees.
DIG Surendra Bahadur Shah said the outfit has been carrying out criminal activities in various districts including Morang, Sunsari, Dhankuta, Sankhuwasabha, Bhojpur, Udayapur, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Ramechhap, Dolakha and Sindhuli in the eastern region. “The arrest is our big achievement,” said Shah.
Police claimed that the outfit had been providing armed training to its cadres after forming Khumbuwan Security Force.
Five people including a Superintendent of Police were injured when the outfit detonated an explosive device in Itahari some months ago. Likewise, a man was also killed in similar explosion carried out by the outfit in the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha five months ago.
