Surya Nepal to award social entrepreneurs

POST REPORT
KATHMANDU, NOV 13 -
Surya Nepal, one of the biggest multinational companies operating in the country, has announced that it would host ‘Asha Social Entrepreneurship Award-2011’ on November 21, to recognise the contribution of those who have been running enterprises for the social good.

Surya Nepal officials said they would award five Nepali social entrepreneurs who have served the community, people and environment. “This will be the first award ceremony that seeks to acknowledge Nepali social entrepreneurs who create value for the people, planet and profit,” said Laishram Buddha Singh, vice president-marketing, Surya Nepal. “Five social entrepreneurs will be awarded for their innovative ideas, commitment and vision for the social change.”

The awards carry a combination of financial, networking, mentoring and PR support.

Singh added a panel of jury consisting of experts with diverse backgrounds will select the winners from among 66 applicants. “Our vision is not only to acknowledge the unsung heroes, but also to showcase their ventures and the impact they have made in the society,” said Luna Shrestha Thakur, director, Change Fusion Nepal, at the programme.

The company is also going to organise a seminar on social entrepreneurship on Nov 2 and 3. On the first day, experts will interact with young entrepreneurs and visitors on how to access finance, means to develop business plans and ways to implement them, among others. “The second event will be a bazaar in which entrepreneurs can showcase their ventures and simultaneously learn, interact and share ideas with visitors and build networks,” added Singh.

All these programs are supported by Nepal Business Initiative (NBI) and sponsored by Surya Nepal.
