District Education Office, Ilam, is set to resume classes, which were affected after the earthquake destroyed school buildings, by erecting temporary huts.
District Education Officer Mahendra Poudel said construction of the huts will start with the financial aid from Unicef after the Dashain and Tihar festivals.
“We are collecting data on damaged buildings from resource centres,” Poudel said, adding that the construction budget will be estimated on the basis of the data collected and submitted to the Unicef.
A joint team of officials from the DEO and Unicef has already inspected the damage to school buildings in the district.
According to the DEO, Kalikadevi Primary School in Aamchowk, Bhanudaya Primary School and Rastriya Lower Secondary School in Jamuna, Saraswati Secondary School in Jirmale, Bal Niketan Primary School in Sulubung and Phalate Secondary School in Chamaita, among others, had to halt regular classes whereas children in many other schools have been crammed in small rooms after the earthquake damaged buildings.
Eighty-eight buildings were totally destroyed and 180 partially damaged in the district that has 134 schools. As many as 225 classrooms were demolished in the earthquake.
