A new species of orchid (Sunakhari), an endangered plant species, has been traced at the border area of Kaski, Parbat and Syangja districts.
Orchid expert Abishkar Subedi traced the species that falls under Panisea Panchaseensis in Panchase forest area.Nordic Journal of Botany has declared it a new species of orchid.
Subedi, who received doctorate in orchid study, traced 250 pieces of the species within a square kilometer area.
With the new species, the number of species under Panisea Panchaseensis group has reached 10. "The species will extinct if initiatives are not taken to conserve it immediately," Subedi said.
Three rare species of orchid have already been traced in the area.
Of the total 380 species of orchid found in the country, 214 have been traced in Pokhara forests, 112 of them in a single area.
