POST REPORT
KATHMANDU, APR 18 -
Deepak Bajracharya, who is on an all US music tour flew all the way from the city of gods-Kathmandu to the US as an ambassador for Nepal Tourism Year 2011. The artist is on a lengthy On Rush in USA promoting his new album On Rush and ‘Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY).
The Kansas City Nepalese Association put together a show open to all on the Nepali New Year. “I had seen DB perform in Atlanta a couple of years ago and was quite excited about his appearance,” says Prayash Nepali, a Nepali living in the US. The concert took place in the auditorium of Blue Valley High School and Bajracharya made it a point to request the crowd to spread word about Nepal’s tourist-friendly nature. He urged the crowd to consider Nepal as a possible vacation destination and ask their friends and neighbours to do the same.
The show started off with the melodious acoustic number Ritu, and his older songs were sung along with songs from On Rush. The singer also shared his personal experiences in between songs. For the lack of a band, Bajracharya often put on a track from his laptop, played his semi-acoustic guitar, and sang.
The show also showcased a short video clip of Nepal Tourism Year 2011, and Bajracharya’s pitch on trying to send more tourists to Nepal. The singer took away rest of the evening by singing faster paced songs like Ju ju na na and Kali kali to which the audience responded by swarming up to the vacant area right underneath the stage and dancing.
