PAC issues fiat to govt

KATHMANDU, APR 08 -
Amid uproar in parliament and outside over evasion of value added tax (VAT) by big business houses and the finance minister reportedly going soft, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Friday instructed the government to take stringent action against offenders.

The Finance Ministry will now find it tough to give any leeway to VAT evaders. And, impatient over the slow progress in the multi-billion rupees Unity Life International probe, the PAC also asked the Finance Ministry and the Home Ministry to submit reports within four days.
