Cops trace missing engineer after 6 days

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, SEP 09 -
Family members and police were clueless about the engineer’s whereabouts even five days after his missing status. But police finally traced Mahendra Chundal in Narayanghat, Chitwan, on the sixth day.

The 35-year-old engineer at Centre for Rural Technology, Lalitpur, came into police contact in a partially conscious state on Wednesday night and underwent treatment at Bharatpur Hospital. He returned to the Capital on Thursday afternoon. Doctors, however, say he needs further treatment.

According to Chundal’s father Khagendra Prasad, his son is not in a condition to say anything. “We had a very hard time for six days,” he said, adding that Chundal has been undergoing treatment at his own residence at Devinagar-10, New Baneshwor.

SP Bikram Thapa, chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Jawalakhel, quoting Chundal’s statement said, “An unidentified man intercepted Chundal’s bike at New Baneshwor while he was on way to home from Mangalbazar on Friday, sat on the back of the bike, and told him that he was abducted.”

The man later forced Chundal to drive towards Gaushala, Chabahil, Maharajgunj, Kalanki and then to Narayanghat, Thapa said. “As soon as police knew about Chundal’s abduction, a rescue team was sent to Chitwan under the command of DSP Dinesh Acharya.” “Further investigation into the case is underway.”

A medical report confirmed that Chundal was fed high dose drugs. The condition of his Hero Honda motorbike (Ba 35 Pa 4774) is still unknown.
