Split in Madhesi Morcha? No, says MJF

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, SEP 05 -
The sixth round of prime ministerial election seems to have altered the dynamics within the Madhes-based parties’ alliance—Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM).

In Sunday’s poll, a crucial partner in the alliance Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum (MJF) insisted that the country should not be held hostage to the Morcha’s neutral position. In the SLMM meeting on Sunday afternoon, MJF called on Morcha partners to vote for UCPN (Maoist). However, the  Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party (TMLP), Sadbhawana Party (SP) and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum Loktantrik (MJF-L) — rejected its proposal.

MJF walked out of he meeting. Yet, later in the poll, it came up with a “no vote” decision.

Confusion persists as to whether the SLMM has split. Some leaders claim the walkout has put the MJF outside the Morcha. SP Chair Rajendra Mahato also said that the MJF has shut itself out of the alliance.

MJF, however, contradicted the claim. “It was intended to put pressure on the SLMM to become decisive,” said MJF Chair Upendra Yadav.
