POST REPORT

CHAUTARA, SEP 05 -
Goods worth millions have been stranded at various points along the Arniko Highway as the section between Kathmandu and Barhabise has been damaged by incessant rain.

According to the customs office at Tatopani, more than 150 container trucks have been stuck at the Nepal-China border. These containers are loaded with mainly Chinese products bound for Kathmandu. Rajendra Kumar Shrestha, president of the Sindhupalchok Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said traders could face heavy losses if they could not get their goods in for the Dashain shopping season.

Trader Nimfunjo Sherpa said most of the imports consisted of T-shirts, pants, shirts, electronic goods, textiles, shoes, slippers, rice cookers and vacuum cleaners. Food items include apple, garlic, onion, ginger and dried fruits.
