Seven Nepalis held hostage in India

HETAUDA, SEP 01 -
Seven people from indigenous Chepang community from Kalikatar VDC of Makwanpur have been taken hostage by their employer in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh for over two months.

The victims have been identified as Suman Chepang; Birchand Chepang; Bikram Chepang; Sudarshan Chepang; Palpale Chepang; Gurau Chepang; Kamising and  Kamising Chepang, 13. 

The septet had reached Himachal Pradesh through one Lokendra Lama, who had  promised them jobs at Nepalgunj.

The victims’ kin learned about their plight upon receiving a letter sent from Himachal Pradesh. Lama had taken the seven to work for a logging company there and for that, he had received IRs. 40,000. The victims mentioned in the letter that their employer has demanded that they pay up the money taken by Lama for their freedom.
