Prasuti Griha to moult into a new avatar
KATHMANDU, SEP 01 -
After decades of service to women, Prasuti Griha, the maternity hospital at Thapathali, has urged the government to convert it into the National Academy of Women’s Health (NAWH).
Referring to a feasibility study report submitted to the Ministry of Health and Population in order to convert the hospital into the NAWH, Director of Prasuti Griha Dr. Lata Bajracharya said the paper lists out infrastructure and resources required for the health institute.
Objectives of establishing the health academy include training health workers for quality care and reaching out to a larger number of women deprived of urgent services. “We urge the government and authorities concerned to go through our proposal that we have submitted to the health ministry and give it a thought.
As a health academy, we could specialise in the field of maternity and help train more and more professionals to serve in the maternity department, providing care to more poor women who are deprived of the services,” said Dr. Bajracharya. She was speaking during the 51st anniversary celebration of the Prasuti Griha on Wednesday. According to statistics for 2009, the 415-bedded hospital provided maternity services to 53,000 women in the outpatient ward, whereas some 25,000 women were admitted to the inpatient ward.
Appreciating the hospital’s contribution, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said the government would upgrade the health facility as proposed soon.
