House collapse kills 7
KALIKOT, AUG 31 -
Seven persons of two families were killed when a house belonging to one Parba Damai collapsed at Sahuwada in Kalikot on Monday night.
Three others sustained injuries in the incident in Bharta VDC-1, about 25 km south of the district headquarters Manma.
The dead have been identified as 10-year-old Raj Bahadur Damai and his siblings seven-year-old Ali and three-year-old Kali, Parba’s children. Kashe Damai, his wife Nani and two children; who had been visiting the Damais, were also killed in the incident, police said.
Jagadish Adhikari, a local, said the three-storey house caved in after rain seeped through the thatched roof.
He added that it had been raining heavily when the incident took place at around 11 p.m.
A police team from the Sukatiya Post reached the site two hours after the incident and rescued three persons , with help of villagers.
“A team of security personnel, health workers and rights activists went to the area to provide treatment to the injured and to carry out a post-mortem,” said Chief District Officer Durga Dutta Dhakal.
Meanwhile, an emergency meeting of the Natural Disaster Rescue Committee, Kalikot, held on Tuesday decided to provide Rs. 25,000 each to the dead and arrange for the treatment of the injured.
One killed in landslide
BAGLUNG: One Nirmal Sharma, 27, was killed in a landslide at Baglung Municipality-4 in the district on Tuesday, police said. Security personnel recovered his body after four hours. Sharma’s body has been handed over to the family after a post-mortem. (PR)
