Abduction bid foiled, four held
KATHMANDU, AUG 31 -
Locals in Bhaktapur foiled an abduction bid with the arrest of four alleged kidnappers on Tuesday morning.
The locals managed to get hold of the four while they were trying to abduct a 15-year-old child Roman Bista, a student of Gyan Kunja Higher Secondary School at Janagaal in Kavre.
The members of the group—identified as Kumar Karki, 31, of Banepa, taxi driver Suresh Balami, 23, of Lokanthali, Lokendra Rai, 25, of Koteshwor and Raju Subba, 34, of Jadibuti—kidnapped Bista while he was going to school with his friends. The gang held the child hostage and tried to ferry him to an unknown location in a taxi. Karki was the mastermind in the abduction bid. The arrested men told the police that they tried to abduct the child to make quick money and that Karki had promised to give each member of the gang Rs. 20,000 after the execution of the abduction plan.
The plan, however, could not materialise after Bista’s friends informed the principal of the school after he failed to show up in the class. Irate locals beat up the abductors black and blue and vandalised the cab before handing them over to the police. Superintendent of Police Rajendra Shrestha said one of the men in the gang, Ale Tamang, however, managed to flee.
