Aviation authority blamed for plane crash

POST REPORT

KATHMANDU, AUG 24 -
Kin of the deceased have blamed the civil aviation authority for negligence behind Tuesday’s plane crash.

Dorji T. Sherpa, father of airhostess Sahara Sherpa, who was killed in the accident, said the civil aviation authority of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) must take the responsibility for the accident. “It was the negligence of the officials at the tower that permitted the flight,” said Sherpa.

Sherpa said the airport authority should have permitted the flight to land in TIA instead of diverting it to Simara.

Similarly, former Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Prithvi Subba Gurung attributed the accident to lack of plane’s maintenance and regular checking .

“I have heard that the plane took off without proper checking, which led to the accident,” said Gurung.

The 15-seat Dornier 228 twin turboprop operated by Agni Air had crashed in Sikharpur, Makawanputr district, killing all 14 on board.
