SC calls both parties over Upper Tamakoshi row
KATHMANDU, AUG 20 -
The Supreme Court on Friday called both the parties to appear at the court on Aug. 26 to discuss the issue of the sacking of newly appointed Executive Chairman of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Limited, Arjun Karki by Energy Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat.
Karki, joint secretary at the Ministry of Environment, was appointed as EC of the project as per a ministerial decision of June 30, and was handed over the appointment letter by the concerned ministry on Aug. 6.
A single bench of Justice Rana Bahadur Bam called both the defendants and petitioners to come to the court for discussion about the issue. On Thursday, challenging the minister’s decision on his dismissal, Karki had filed a writ at the apex court.
Mahat had appointed Karki as per the recommendation of Energy Secretary Shankar Prasad Koirala, but later objected to the appointment, stating he had directed Koirala to make some ‘corrections’.
