67 Nepali workers bailed out of Libya
KATHMANDU, AUG 18 -
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has said 67 of the 108 Nepali workers stranded in Libya have returned home. While 21 of them arrived in the Capital on Tuesday, 46 arrived on Wednesday.
In a press statement, the organisation said the remaining workers will return to Nepal soon. The workers were recruited by Dhaulagiri International Manpower to work for a Libyan company called CKG in November 2008. They were living in a miserable condition with their payments held up and passports seized by the company which closed early this year, according to the IOM.
“The return, which was facilitated by the IOM at the request of the Government of Nepal, marks the successful conclusion of complex negotiations to help the workers return home,” the statement said.
