NEPSE dips 3rd week running
KATHMANDU, AUG 14 -
Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued to shed points for the third consecutive week as the sub-indices of six groups saw plummeting out of nine last week.
The benchmark index came down to 454.68 points, with a drop of 5.15 points during the week.
Among the remaining three groups, only one sector saw a positive growth while sub-indices of the other two remained the same over the week.
The group of hydropower companies led the losers’ list, going down by 20.31 points, followed by groups comprising others, development banks and commercial banks with a loss of 10.57 points, 6.78 points and 3.95 points respectively.
Likewise, the groups of insurance companies and hotels went down shedding 3.28 points and 2.79 points respectively. The index of finance companies’ group was the sole gainer of the week, posting a small gain of 0.24 points. However, the group of manufacturing companies did not see a change in its index.
Despite the rise in the number of companies and the turnover, NEPSE saw a decline in the number of shares traded along with the number of transactions held over the week.
Last week, the secondary market witnessed a total turnover of Rs. 151.58 million, up by 2.35 percent from Rs. 148.15million witnessed in the previous week. The number of companies whose shares were traded also went up to 101 from 98. However, the number of shares traded over the week went down to 319,887 from 411,747 the previous week.
The number of transactions also slumped to 5,019 from 5,231 in the preceding week.
Shares of Everest Bank Limited topped in terms of total turnover, accumulating Rs. 42.49 million, but Prime Life Insurance Company was in pole position in terms of number of shares traded and the number of transactions. It saw a trading of 30,670 shares from 1,196 transactions.
