Students to get M’sia visas
KATHMANDU, AUG 13 -
Malaysia, which attracts a large number of Nepali workers every year, is opening its doors for Nepali students.
The increasing number of Nepali students going abroad, mostly to the US, UK and Australia, has drawn the attention of Malaysian educational institutions.
“Nepali students work hard to get visa to go to the UK, USA and Australia to study, but due to the lengthy process, many of them have not been able to do so,” Dato Ilankovan Kolandavelu, the Ambassador of Malaysia, told the Post. “Therefore, we would like to open up avenues to students in universities and colleges in Malaysia. They are providing education similar to other countries, as the university curriculum and examination in Malaysia are set by them. Moreover, the education is best suited for developing countries like Nepal.”
He also said that it won’t be difficult for students to get visa if they wish to go as students to Malaysia, neither would they face any financial problem, since the cost of living is not expensive as compared to other developed countries. Besides, students can study for one or two years in Malaysia and shift to universities in the UK, USA and Australia for their final course.
According to data provided by the Malaysian Embassy, some 80,000 foreign students from 110 countries are currently pursuing education in some 600 colleges and universities in Malaysia, of them some 500 from Nepal.
Malaysian universities and colleges have been attracting Nepali students since 2007 by organising the education fairs.
“Since there is no student politics in Malaysian universities, there is no risk of disruption in studies like in Nepal,” added Kolandavelu.
“Besides this, various colleges and universities are providing scholarships, loans and many other education institutions are in the process of creating such opportunities for foreign students.”
